The Song Foundry has always been about making high-quality songwriting ideas and knowledge accessible to a large audience, so we priced our courses with that in mind. So when you enroll, no, you shouldn’t expect tons of ads or emails asking you to shell out for other, more expensive products or services.

The thing we care about more than anything else is helping songwriters to level up and connect with other writers. And our courses and course community let us do that in a super affordable way. It’s as simple as that.

For starters, all of our courses are skills and techniques-based. That means no long but aimless stories about anyone’s songwriting career. That means no empty promises that we know some simple secret to writing a hit. That means only the powerful ideas, tools and techniques you need to write your best songs – whatever genre you write in, and whatever level of experience you’re at.

That also means that our courses – and songwriting community – tend to attract people who genuinely care about levelling up their skills, and not just people looking for some quick shortcut to becoming a famous musician. (Pro tip: there aren’t any.) That makes it a great place to meet like-minded writers at a similar stage to you – which is exactly what you want to take your songwriting to the next level.

If you’ve already got a lot from Ed’s books, that’s great.

These courses are packed with similar ideas and Ed’s inspiring trademark teaching style – so in that respect, they’re similar to his books.

But being video-based, these courses go much deeper than Ed’s books – they contain a lot more real-life music examples, live demonstrations of how to use the powerful techniques in the courses, as well as lots of extra practical tips and ideas for how you can put these techniques into practice yourself. Plus, if you’re the kind of person who learns well from visual or video content, they’re an ideal complement to the books.

The courses obviously come with one important extra too – the community Facebook group, where you can meet other writers, ask questions and get feedback on your songs.

Sure, Ed isn’t world famous or a Grammy winner, but he is a skilled and inspiring music educator with years of experience of helping songwriters level up their skills and find their unique voice.

There are a few decent courses featuring well-known musicians, but most of them are hosted by musicians who have little – or no – teaching experience. So that means you’re really paying for their name and reputation, not their content or ideas.

It also means a lot of those courses tend to focus on what we call ‘learning by osmosis’ – ‘if I just do it in front of you you’ll figure it out’ – or later-stage skills – like how to network, or advanced production techniques. So while these courses might be interesting as an entertainment product, a lot of them aren’t that useful as an educational experience.

So sure, if you’re already have some songwriting experience and there’s a course featuring a musician you particularly admire, you may well find it useful. But if you’re still working on the fundamental and game-changing skills that will get you writing better songs in any genre or style, our courses are a much smarter way to spend your time and money.

We don’t have a silver bullet to get you an easy career in the music industry – but neither does anyone else, no matter what they tell you.

But what are courses are really good at is giving you the skills and experience you need to write songs that really stand out – and tons of connections that could take you anwhere as a songwriter.
